National ID Pilot-testing: What We Need To Know

The pilot test for the national ID was launched by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) yesterday, September 1, 2019.  What are the important things we need to know about this new implementation?

Read on.

  1. The pilot test will run for four months, beginning September 1, 2019.
  2. The pilot test will be conducted for about 10,000 citizens in Metro Manila before other cities and provinces are included.
  3. Beneficiaries of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) are first in line.  This includes senior citizens, persons with disability, mothers, and farmers.
  4. Employees of the PSA and selected bodies of government agencies will also form part of the first batch of registrants.
  5. The PSA will be bringing registration kits and will install satellite offices nationwide to accommodate all citizens identified to qualify for the pilot run.
  6. All information will be stored in the PSA database.  Biometric information is included.
  7. The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) will handle the printing of the national ID.
  8. Overall, the government is looking at registering about 107 million Filipinos by 2022.
