How to Get a PSA Death Certificate Online

When a child is born, the details of his or her birth must be duly registered at the Local Civil Registrar’s office.  This is how a person is assigned his own birth certificate which he will use as proof of his identity, nationality, and age (and other important personal information) during his lifetime.

When a person dies, the details of his death must likewise be documented and made official at the LCR office of the place where he passed away.  A person’s death certificate is useful to his family in securing the deceased person’s assets after he dies.

A person’s death must be registered at the LCR within 30 days from the date of death. Otherwise, the registration will be considered “delayed” and additional requirements will be asked of the family such as affidavits, certificates of burial and cremation, and the like.

What are the uses of a certificate of death?

  1. Prima facie evidence of death
  2. Claim of benefits, pensions, insurance, or tax exemption.
  3. Evidence for settlement of estate
  4. Remarriage purpose of surviving spouse.
  5. Designation of a guardian or foster parent for minor.
  6. Determine health priorities for prevention of deaths due to similar causes in the future.
  7. The information is also important for family members so that they know what caused the death and are aware of conditions that may occur or could be prevented in other family members.

A certificate of death may be presented in its registered format or printed on the security paper (SECPA) of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

The PSA offers an alternative way in securing the death certificate of a deceased person.  You can request for a copy online at PSAHelpline.ph.

How to get a PSA death certificate online?

Securing your PSA certificates online (birth, marriage, death, and CENOMAR) is the safest way to get these documents especially now that we are in the middle of a raging pandemic. Personally, even after I have completed my COVID-19 vaccines, I will continue to observe social distancing when in public areas and limit my movements outside my home.  It is good to know that there is an online platform where I can simply order my PSA certificates and have the documents delivered to me instead.

Here’s how you can order your needed PSA certificates online:

  1. Log on to www.psahelpline.ph
  2. Choose the document you wish to order and provide the required details.
  3. Pay for your order through any of the available payment partners of PSAHelpline.ph
  4. Wait for your documents to be delivered to you.

A PSA certificate of death costs P365.00 per copy – this already includes processing and delivery fees.  It is still a lot cheaper and more economical than physically going to a PSA office.
